Fan Engagement Unlocked: MotoGP elevates sponsor value and fan retention with F2P games

With the MotoGP race calendar in full swing, MotoGP Predictor and MotoGP Fantasy return with new features and prizes to drive the rights holder’s digital fan engagement and sponsor activation strategy.

Double World Champion Francesco Bagnaia looks to add a third consecutive MotoGP championship to his name this season, as the sport continues to experience significant growth. In 2023, MotoGP recorded a 27% year-on-year increase in weekend TV viewers.

For rights holder Dorna Sports, building an engaging owned digital experience is a primary part of its direct-to-fan strategy. With two digital gamification products, MotoGP Predictor and MotoGP Fantasy, the sport is able to capture first-party fan data (both games require registration), create new sponsorable assets and drive greater fan retention.

Designed to activate lead sponsor Tissot, MotoGP Predictor is a custom-built game that asks users to predict the pole position time from Q2 on the Saturday of a race weekend. The game offers fans the chance to win weekly prizes like signed Tissot Chronograph watches and VIP Village passes.

Crucially, Tissot’s sponsor activation includes game branding and naming while enabling it to own a season-long digital experience in order to connect with fans. This perfectly supports the new Tissot Sprint Race – an incredibly popular addition to the weekend race schedule that was introduced last year.

The light-touch gamification product continues to build repeat, easy-to-play fan engagement.

Meanwhile, MotoGP Fantasy is perfect for both new audiences and avid fans. The combination of MotoGP Fantasy and MotoGP Predictor allow the rights holder to own the fan journey across the full race weekend, rather than simply for the Sprint Race.

The game requires players to select a team of two gold riders, two silver riders, a constructor and a team, earning points in Q1, Q2, the Sprint Race and Grand Prix. Three Motul Boosts– which double a rider’s points – are allowed per season.

Fans can pit their scores against friends in leagues and leaderboards, creating a healthy sense of competition.

Returning for their fourth and fifth seasons respectively, MotoGP Predictor and Fantasy have experienced year-on-year growth since 2021, demonstrating the power of gamification in building digital audience growth, loyalty and increased sponsorship value.
